The Best Way to Find Meaning and Happiness in Life is by Knowing Yourself.
Do you ever feel lost? That feeling regarding something missing in life. It happens frequently with me. The lack of self-knowledge and a strong sense of purpose is what leads many like us astray in life. Even though people have everything money can buy still, most of them feel empty inside.
The real problem for most of us is insufficient knowledge about who we really are. Most of us have never taken the effort to know our self from within. As children, we were taught that money, fame, friends, degrees, awards etc. will bring us true happiness and success. Take a look at the people around you who have achieved all those things and see if they are really happy with themselves. Having all the materialistic sources of happiness does not guarantee true and lasting happiness.
In this information era, millions of solutions pop up at the click of a mouse. It is good and bad at the same time. Bad because we are slowly forgetting the art of introspection to understand the problems we face. We are losing touch with our inner child and becoming like robots. Think for yourself: Is doing a job all that you have been born for? Isn’t there any other purpose to our life?
I believe that it’s about time we start asking the right questions to ourselves. What Does Knowing Yourself mean to you……? Think for a moment & then read further.
To me knowing myself means understanding Who I am, What I love and Why I exist. If you can figure out these three things, a newfound clarity and sense of purpose will enter your life. You will catch yourself more happy and peaceful than ever before.
Listed below are important guide points which will help you understand yourself in a better way.
- Take Responsibility for Your Self
Knowing yourself starts with taking responsibility for your life. The moment you decide that you want to make your life better your journey for self-knowledge and self-growth will begin.
- Asking the Right Questions?
All our life we have been asked the wrong questions. Asking ourselves the right questions will help us realize our true potential. Right now, take a notepad and answer the following questions honestly. It’s for your own good.
- Create a list of things which light you up with joy.
- Create a list of things that you love to do in your free time.
- Things you loved to do when you were a child. What would you do if you become a child again?
- Things that you are Good at doing? (Jot down your thoughts and also take feedback from people.)
- List down activities which make time flow by without any realization.
- Two things that you will like to improve in yourself.
- Who are You?
- Worry less about others opinion
People are like that only. They find it easier to speak about others rather than doing. Don’t get stuck by thinking about what someone else will think. I feel life is meant to be spent doing things one loves. Don’t suppress your dreams for the sake of others. The people who mock you today will be the first ones who praise you.
- Spend Time With Yourself
Each day take out 20 minutes from your schedule where you are not doing any activity other than being with yourself. Ask yourself questions, sit silently, realign yourself with your vision. This will help you to know yourself better. The clarity which it will bring will spearhead you in the right direction. Make a conscious effort to think for yourself. Leaving it in hands of other people is too big a risk to take.
- Start Loving Yourself
You are as unique as the person sitting next to you. You don’t have to be like someone to be accepted and loved. Instead of looking for likes on Facebook, start liking yourself instead. This will boost your confidence and bring out the real you.
- Keep Doing New Things
The thing about exploring and doing new things is that it keeps the enthusiasm and zeal alive in us. It helps us know unexplored areas of our own personalities. To get started you can pick up a new sport, a new book, try public speaking, volunteering for a cause. It can be anything which makes you feel more alive.
Knowing yourself is not a one-day activity. It is a process which unfolds itself as you keep moving through life. Hold on to your enthusiasm and never stop learning. It is my desire for you to know and discover things about yourself which were hidden before. Do share this with someone whom you think needs it.
Stay Healthy & Happy 🙂
