The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go.
– Dr. Seuss
I believe that reading books has the power to transform our lives. I have made it a habit to spend at least half an hour each day to read, watch or listen motivational, spiritual and practical books, videos or audios. It has helped me to broaden my mind, challenge my beliefs, learn valuable lessons from other’s mistakes, become more understanding and has given me the confidence to follow my own calling in life.
I truly believe that reading a great book helps us to step into the minds of the greatest thinkers of the time and relive their wisdom. They have the power to transform the reader in ways which we can’t imagine. I have read more than 50 books on self-help till date. Each one of those books has had a profound impact in shaping me as a person. I have acquired so many good habits, values, life lessons, practical knowledge and a sense of intuition that has helped me cross the line in many difficult situations.
Great books pull us into a dimension where there are no thoughts & no worries. We are able to enjoy the moment to the fullest. I have also realized that a particular book that I am reading right now would help me with some problem that I am facing now or in the near future. Your coming on this blog is no accident. You have attracted these books into your life at this very moment.
I firmly believe that reading these 5 books will change your life for the better just as they did mine:
1. The Secret by Rhonda Byrne
“There is a truth deep down inside of you that has been waiting for you to discover it, and that truth is this: you deserve all good things life has to offer. “
-Rhonda Byrne, The Secret
This is the first life-changing book that I read. In this book, the author explains the law of attraction- the law which governs our lives. According to the law of attraction, all the things in the universe are made up of energy and emit a certain kind of frequency. The vibrations you send out attract to you the situations which are in tune with your frequency i.e. like attracts like. The author provides the readers with tools such as gratitude, visualization, meditation, journaling and much more to create their dream life. With this book, I began my personal growth journey and I strongly recommend you get a copy of yours too.
2. You Can Heal Your Life by Louise Hay
“I have never understood the importance of having children memorize battle dates. It seems like such a waste of mental energy. Instead, we could teach them important subjects such as How the Mind Works, How to Handle Finances, How to Invest Money for Financial Security, How to be a Parent, How to Create Good Relationships, and How to Create and Maintain Self-Esteem and Self-Worth. Can you imagine what a whole generation of adults would be like if they had been taught these subjects in school along with their regular curriculum?”
-Louise Hay, You Can Heal Your Life
This book completely changed and challenged my beliefs about healing, loving myself and being happy. The author starts this book by describing how she triumphed over cancer, childhood molestation, poverty and created a beautiful life out of the hell. She introduces the readers with AFFIRMATIONS and the power they have to change one’s life. Each chapter of this book wonderfully covers topics from loving yourself, using affirmations to heal diseases, alternative healing methods, accepting yourself as you are and much more to transform your life. I have been practicing the wisdom on healing from this book and it has been working wonders for me. Books like these are rare. Do take the time out to read it. It will help you in improving your life as well as that of your loved ones.
3. Man’s Search For Meaning by Viktor E Frankl
“Everything can be taken from a man but one thing: the last of the human freedoms—to choose one’s attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one’s own way.”
– Viktor E Frankl, Man’s Search For Meaning
Psychiatrist Viktor Frankl’s memoir has riveted generations of readers with its descriptions of life in Nazi death camps and its lessons for spiritual survival. Between 1942 and 1945 Frankl labored in four different camps, including Auschwitz, while his parents, brother, and pregnant wife perished. Based on his own experience and the experiences of others he treated later in his practice, Frankl argues that we cannot avoid suffering but we can choose how to cope with it, find meaning in it, and move forward with renewed purpose. Frankl’s theory-known as logotherapy, from the Greek word logos (“meaning”)-holds, that our primary drive in life is not pleasure, as Freud maintained, but the discovery and pursuit of what we personally find meaningful. This sensational book made me realize how blessed I am and helped me prepare mentally to overcome any hardship or setback in life. I highly recommend you to read it now.
4. Conversations With God- Book 1, 2 & 3 by Neale Donald Walsch
“Enlightenment is understanding that there is nowhere to go, nothing to do, and nobody you have to be except exactly who you’re being right now.”
― Neale Donald Walsch, CWG Book 1
The series of books is in the form of a dialogue between the author and the God in which God answers many profound questions in a very simple manner. For me, this has been “the book” that changed my life by initiating a deep spiritual awakening for me. It marked the start of a very special journey of spiritual evolution and consciousness expansion for me. In this book, you will surely find answers to most of the questions that you have about life. The content of these books challenged my existing beliefs and helped open my mind to a whole new worldview. Do take the time out to read this amazing dialogue between God and the author.
5. Autobiography Of A Yogi by Paramhansa Yogananda
“This life is not man’s own show; if he becomes personally and emotionally involved in the very complicated cosmic drama, he reaps inevitable suffering for having distorted the divine ‘plot.’ ”
– Paramhansa Yogananda
In Autobiography of a Yogi, Shri Paramhansa Yogananda shares with us his incredible life story. Each chapter in the book highlights the life-changing experiences which he had in his quest for self-realization. He introduces the readers to Kriya Yoga. Through Kriya Yoga, one can evolve so much more in a lifetime than one can ordinarily in a thousand lifetimes. A major takeaway from this book for me has been moving inwards spiritually through meditation. I also realized that I am much more than this flesh and bones. This book has helped me made many positive changes in myself. It has also expanded my awareness of how the universe works.
I believe that applying the knowledge gained from reading such books is what makes the real difference. I urge you to start your personal growth journey by reading just one of the above books. Do share with me the list of books that have helped you become a better person.
Thanks for taking the time out to read this. I wish lots of joy, health, and peace coming your way.
